We all believe that weight issues would take a backseat when you are struggling with a nagging disease. But Parag Doodhya proved us wrong. Suffering from a kidney disease did not deter him from fighting obesity. Here is his journey...

Name: Parag Doodhya

Highest weight recorded: 80 kg (176 lbs)

Weight lost: 20 kg (44 lbs)

The turning point: I was already trying too hard to shed extra kilos but I failed miserably every single time. Getting up again from injuries is always tough. I failed a couple of times but then I got motivated and never looked back.

My breakfast: Usually my breakfast includes a bowl of oats with hot milk, 1 banana and a handful of nuts/ dry fruits.

My lunch: For lunch, I usually eat 3-4 chapatis (or sometimes rice) along with any seasonal vegetable, 2 bowls of Dal and 1 cup of curd.

My dinner: For dinner, I usually take 2-3 chapatis along with any seasonal vegetable and 2 bowls of Dal.

I indulge in: I occasionally have cheat meals but I love different chicken recipes. So, yes I do have that lip smacking butter chicken once or twice in a month.

My workout: Being a marathon runner, I focus more on my long runs.

My workout regime includes:
3 days a week of short (say 4-5 km) and fast paced run
1 day a week long run (around 12-18 km at least)
Apart from this, for better muscle endurance, I strength train 3-4 days a week.
For this strength training, I prefer doing calisthenic exercise which includes- pushups, pullups, chin-ups, planks, squats, burpees, parallel-bar dips, hanging leg raises, wall walk, crunches.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I customize every meal that I eat but the best recipe that I swear by is oats with hot milk, topped with 1 banana. The perfect breakfast ever that anyone can easily have.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: I think that fitness is all about "patience" and "consistency". Trying hard consistently and keeping patience is the key. Apart from this, I never had any supplements nor did I go to any gym. So, the secret to get fit lies in eating simple food and planning your workouts according to your body.

How do I stay motivated? I had fought a kidney disease and crossed every hurdle. Many people look up to me as an inspiration. I want to bring about a change in the society by spreading awareness about fitness.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: The lesson I learnt from my transformation journey is that fitness lifestyle is not just limited to looking good. Rather you should become confident, expressive, and comfortable in your own skin. Other than this, I now believe that failing is a part of the process, we couldn’t give up unless and until we achieve our goals.
