‘Love for the Giants’, an art exhibition with a cause inaugurated in the city
‘Love for the Giants’, an art exhibition themed around human-elephant conflict existing in Bannerghatta National Park was inaugurated today in the prestigious Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. It is organized by Prank Abstracts and A Rocha India, a not-for-profit organization with an aim of bringing awareness about existing conflict.
The event was inaugurated in the presence of famed celebrities from Kannada film industry as Movie Director Mr. Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, Mr. Chethan Gandharva, actor and Ms. Jeevika, actress.
A Rocha India realised that creating awareness about the conflict and its impact on the animal life has become crucial due to increasing frequency of such conflicts taking place. Their thoughts resonated with a nature enthusiast and entrepreneur, Mr. Praveen Nandkumar. Praveen, Director(Marketing) at Bangalore-based real estate developer, had been painting the canvas as a passion and when this passion got an inspiration, ‘Love for the Giants’ took shape.
“We had been working towards the cause for last ten years and have received very good responses too. But this issue requires constant research and efforts. We still feel awareness amongst general public about the issue is limited and thus such exhibitions are very important”, said Mr. Prem Mitra, Chairman, A Rocha India at the inauguration.
“I have always had a certain affinity towards elephants. They always amazed me and thus when I met A Rocha India, I knew my debut painting exhibition will be on this theme. I feel art as a medium is very strong when it comes to spreading awareness about a larger issue. All my paintings have drawn inspiration from real life incidents faced by elephants.”, said Mr, Praveen Nandkumar, artist.
The collection on display includes 15 paintings and 5 potteries. Every painting puts across a strong message for example, one shows elephants stuck in forest fire, one a lone tusker, another shows how elephants dream about earth as their heaven, etc. The proceeds from the sale of art from the exhibition will be donated to A Rocha India for carrying out their research and efforts.
