Hyderabad: Army Major’s wife found hanging, husband booked in dowry death case
An army Major’s wife was found hanging at their official quarters located under Bolarum police station in Hyderabad, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased, Sandhya Singh, who was a radio jockey, was found hanging on Thursday, police said.
“Her husband Major Vaibhav Vishal is currently working in 54th Infantry Division here. The deceased was working as a radio jockey,” deputy commissioner of police B Sumathi said.
According to the police official, it was a love marriage and the deceased belonged to Scheduled Castes (SC) community from Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, based on the information provided by her husband, a case of suicide had been registered.
However, the family members of the deceased alleged that her husband had been harassing her for dowry. Following this, the army Major was booked under section 304 (b) (dowry death), and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at Bolarum police station, police said.
“We wrote a letter to the Army officials seeking his custody. As per the communication, we received from them that he (Major Vishal) is in ICU of an army hospital due to health problems. The army assured us that he will be handed over to us as soon as he will be fine medically,” Sumathi said.
