NAGPUR: A fatigued PV Sindhu has withdrawn from the Macau Open, paving way for Saina Nehwal to get the top billing at the $120,000 event which gets underway on Tuesday .

Sindhu, who clinched the China Open Series a week before last, had finished as runners up in the Hong Kong Open Super Series on Sunday .The back-to-back tournaments have apparently taken a toll on her body and as a consequence the three-time Macau Open champion has chosen to give herself a break before she hits the road again.

In her absence, Saina is the only Indian contender in the women’s singles and once again her coach Vimal Kumar has cautioned that one shouldn’t expect too much from the former world No. 1 who is finding her way back after a career-threatening injury .

Currently ranked 11th Saina, will start her campaign against the 44th ranked Indonesia’s Hanna Ramadini. Sameer Verma will lead the Indian challenge in the men’s singles along with Commonwealth Games gold medallist Parupalli Kashyap, HS Prannoy and B SAI Praneeth.
